My name is Maynard Mann, He/they, 27 years old, alum of Savannah college of art and design jewelry department, and I run my studio out of my two-bedroom apartment located in Savannah Ga. I have always possessed a passion for fashion and adornment as means of self-expression jewelry and metal objects obviously being my favored medium. For me, fashion and accessories are tied intimately with personal identity. In that vein, I think that tie to personal identity is doubly so for body jewelry and adornments that demand body modification. The permanent alteration of one's body to accommodate a piece of jewelry integrates that work into one's personhood in a way that a finger ring or neckpiece could never truly achieve. It's that exemplification of jewelry as an expression of self that drew me to body jewelry and ultimately lead me to build my practice and livelihood around it.
