Dysphoria

Senior Thesis Collection 2021

This collection titled Dysphoria is about internalized trauma and the alienation of the self that comes with it. The body is the vessel by which we all experience pain and the body can become a target of the mind when the mind cannot reconcile those experiences. In this collection I aimed to materialize that sensation by tapping into the innate primal disgust we feel when viewing the human body out of context, through intricately sculpted organic forms. However, I still wanted these objects to be things of beauty and value. That if such grotesque and malformed imagery could create something so precious, then surely the same can be true of us as products of our own experiences.

Cad Work Samples

I have always gravitated towards CAD starting with rhinoceros 3d when I was 13 years old on an ancient school-owned Thinkpad laptop with a physical copy of rhino 3.0. Immediately I was enthralled I felt relieved of all the limitations of myself by being in that digital space. Of course, at the time making in a digital space was not yet tantamount to being able to easily manifest an object physically but that gap has closed so thoroughly as to be as thin as human hair and is getting smaller every day, I like to think of my work as a prime example of that fact. Nearly all of the work featured in my portfolio began in this digital space but pictured below are some work samples of my work at that stage of the process.
